FAQsWhy should I choose SCS?SCS is a great place for students to grow academically, socially and spiritually in a family environment. Students are well-cared for, with very individualized planning and help in school from staff members that genuinely want them to succeed. Additionally, for being so small, SCS offers a great curriculum and plenty of opportunities for new experiences. Why is your enrollment so low?We keep our student numbers low enough to be able to provide the one-on-one attention to each student that makes us unique. What is the deadline for applications? For first semester (Sept-Jan), we accept applications on a first-come, first-serve basis through mid-October (make-up work may be required depending on start date). For second semester (Feb-June), we accept applications through mid-March. International students should apply early enough to allow time to process a visa (generally a month ahead, depending on the country of origin). Are there any requirements for admission? Applications are considered on an individual basis according to how well the student would fit into the SCS environment. There is no specific minimum GPA requirement and we do not require a test for admission (though an English assessment test will be administered to international students upon arrival for placement purposes). Do I have to pay a whole year’s tuition at once?Local students are invoiced monthly for tuition. International students must pay for one year upon visa approval. Do students have to pay extra for textbooks and other resources? No, textbooks and technology fees are included in the tuition price. A few classes and clubs (i.e. Art classes, Bowling club, etc.) may charge a nominal fee to cover supplies or admission. What extra-curricular activities do you provide? We have after-school clubs that change seasonally (athletic and special-interest), two all-school trips per year, Chapel once a week, free tutoring from teachers after school, ESL classes and our Independent Study Program (ISP) in the evenings. Does SCS provide bus transportation? No. Students who do not live on campus must be dropped off and picked up. How do you communicate with parents/guardians?Primarily, we use a wonderful, online grading and administrative software called Teacherease. When parents/guardians or students provide the office with an active email address, we can send a password that allows access to up-to-the-minute information on scheduling, grades, assignments, attendance and upcoming events. Email announcements are frequently sent out as well. Semester grade reports are mailed to the address provided upon enrollment (for local students). We hold parent/teacher conferences twice a year, and our office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 pm for parents/guardians to call or drop by with concerns. Is SCS affiliated with a particular church or denomination? Do students have to be Christian to attend? No, we are a non-denominational Christian school. We welcome students from all religious backgrounds. | overviewSolomon Christian School is a private, fully-accredited school for students in grades 7-12. We were founded in 1993 and our student body is comprised of both local and international students. Our standard school year runs September through June with a two- to three-week winter break. We are on a two-semester system. Students are enrolled in our college-preparatory core curriculum, as well as classes in computer literacy, biblical studies and physical education (see handbook for more details and class descriptions). We also offer a comprehensive English as a Second Language (ESL) program as well as Night School (our credit make-up program) which allows students to make up missed credits or re-take classes to improve their grade point average (GPA) for college. We require students to attend two clubs activities per week as well as a non-denominational chapel session every Wednesday. Chapel focuses on students' relationship with God and how that affects their everyday lives, which is an important part of the overall education we strive to give our students. We take two all-school trips every year, generally a local retreat in the fall and a week-long trip out of state in the spring (extra costs apply). Tuition Costs: The cost for one full school year (two semesters) includes the application fee, all textbooks and tech/lab fees. U.S. Students $7,045.00 per year International Students $13,200.00 per year* *Please note: International tuition will increase to $14,000.00 per year beginning Fall, 2009. |
