History American Government Health Physical Education Speech Computer Literacy Foreign Language Psychology Sociology Art | Night School (Credit Make-Up Program)At Solomon Christian School, most of our students want to go on to a four-year university in the United States. The first thing these universities look at for any applicant is their grade point average (GPA). A student’s GPA accrues over his/her four years of high school (9th-12th grade), and if a student has a difficult time during his/her early high school years due to immaturity or English language ability it can be very difficult to make up for that rough start no matter how hard a student studies in his or her later years. In light of this situation, Solomon Christian School offers Night School during which students can independently retake courses for which they originally received low grades, thereby getting the chance to replace low grades on a transcript with better grades—hopefully A’s! This gives each student the best possible chance to gain admittance to the university of his/her choice.
Many of our students come from overseas in tenth or eleventh grade, and due to the differences between the U.S. high school requirements and those of their home country, our students are often missing some U.S. university admission requirements. Through Night School, students can fulfill all missing requirements for U.S. four year university admissions without delaying their high school graduation date.
All credits and courses earned through Night School will be added to the student’s Solomon Christian School transcript. We have had great success helping our students gain admittance to very good U.S. universities, and this credit make-up program has played a vital role in that effort. This program has been the key to success for many students, international and domestic, and we are sure it can be for your student as well. Night School (Credit Make-Up Program) Costs: The cost for participating in Night School Monday – Thursday, 4:00-6:00pm, is $1,200.00 per month for tuition plus the cost of curriculum ($120.00 per semester credit on average). We also offer a longer option: Monday – Friday, 4:00-9:00pm (with a dinner break) for $3,000.00 per month for tuition plus the cost of curriculum. Tuition is invoiced, but we do need a credit card on file for the curriculum costs. Please click here for more information on this policy.
English as a Second Language (ESL) ProgramSince so many of our students come from abroad, over the years we have developed a very comprehensive and effective ESL program. When students arrive, they are given an in-house English assessment test (we do not require an English proficiency test such as TOEFL or SLEP prior to admission). Based on a student’s score, there are three possible ways our registrar will schedule a student: | Schedule | 0-59% (failing score) | ESL I- Four or five ESL classes during the day, one or two electives (regular classes) plus our evening ESL I class (4:00-6:00 p.m.) | 60-69% (low passing score) | ESL II- Four ESL classes during the day, two electives (regular classes) plus our evening ESL II class (4:00-6:00 p.m.) | 70% and above (passing score) | Regular classes (no additional ESL classes required). |
Students are re-assessed at the end of every semester for the chance to move up a level. Because of the intense nature of our immersion-style classes, students generally test out of ESL classes in one year or less. ESL classes during the regular school day include: Bible, Speech & Conversation, Reading & Pronunciation, Writing & Vocabulary and Grammar. The evening ESL I/II classes focus more on practical English application (both for class settings and for using English in the community) and include regular field trips and special events. ESL Costs: All ESL classes scheduled during the regular school day are included in the regular tuition cost. The evening ESL I/II classes (which run Monday-Friday from 4:00-6:00 p.m.) are an additional $650.00 per month, and are included on the tuition invoice. |
